Meet Zuzu the Cuffaloo!

Zuzu's Unique Details: Zuzu was created from a small yellow cashmere sweater sleeve remnant I'd been holding onto for over a year — an unusually long, skinny scrap that never quite fit any project, with beautiful argyle pattern and yarn appliqué texture. Zuzu's collar is made from a silky dress shirt sleeve cuff layered over a black cashmere sweater sleeve cuff. Her hat is hand-sewn from a scrap of ribbing from that same black sweater, enclosing her yellow wool yarn hair and pigtails, tying the whole piece back to its source sweater. Details include wool ball and button eyes and a sweet hand-sewn little yarn smile. She has a pocket on her back, for tiny treasures or tooth fairy visits. 

About the Cuffaloos: After creating dozens of bigger Oddkins out of upcycled garments, my box of accumulated sweater sleeves and cuffs was demanding my attention. So I created Cuffaloos. Cuffaloos are armless Oddkin friends, complete with a teeny pocket and weighted base so they can stand on their own. They are happy sitting on a desk, shelf, bedside table, or wherever you need a cute companion nearby. Each incorporates unique bits & bobs I’ve collected over time, contributing to their own unique characters and personalities.

About the Bits & Bobs Collection: When I’m making larger Oddkins, all the leftover bits and bobs eventually make their way into the “deal with it later” bin. Well, later finally came. I dumped out the bin, mined it for treasure, and discovered all sorts of beautiful materials that had been patiently waiting their turn. This collection is all about all the little stuff — the odds and ends that don't lend themselves to a whole collection but are far too good to overlook.

A Note About Beans: I use dry beans in my Oddkins because I prefer non-plastic materials and love the resourcefulness of giving an old pantry staples a second life. When kept dry, dried beans do not inherently create a mold or pest problem. The beans inside each Cuffaloo are contained in a securely sewn cotton pouch, which provides an extra layer of protection between the beans and the outer plush while still allowing the materials to breathe naturally.
