Extended Bio

Katie Gates is a fiber artist and the founder of Oddkin Studio, where she creates delightfully odd handmade companions from repurposed textiles. Inspired by the constraints of scavenged materials, resourcefulness, and a love for the slightly strange, Katie crafts one-of-a-kind wooly misfits full of personality, charm, and imperfect little quirks. Every crooked smile, mismatched detail, and wild yarn tuft is part of what makes each Oddkin so unique.

Oddkin Studio began with a leap of faith and a basket of fabric scraps. In 2024, Katie stepped away from a decade-long teaching career in search of a slower, quieter life after burnout. Living in a tiny converted garden shed, she spent her days resting, wandering, and following small sparks of curiosity wherever they led. Somewhere along the way, those sparks turned into scrap monsters.

What began as a playful return to making soon grew into a full-time handmade art business. Using old sweaters, wool scraps, and forgotten fabrics, Katie intuitively allows the materials to guide the direction of each creation, transforming discarded textiles into soft, peculiar companions with their own expressions and personalities.

Today, Oddkin Studio remains a one-woman operation, with every piece designed and handcrafted by Katie as a celebration of imagination, transformation, and the magic of turning something overlooked into something deeply lovable.
